With the 2009 Highway Reauthorization Bill scheduled for debate in the next Congress, the Association has joined the Agriculture Transportation Efficiency Coalition (AgTEC) to lead a charge for reform at the federal level. AgTEC is developing outreach plans to increase the gross vehicle weight limit of vehicles transporting raw agricultural and forest commodities to 97,000 pounds. Efforts include media outreach, advocacy ads in two Capitol Hill press publications, press conferences at the National Press Club, advertorials, an early spring DC fly-in, etc. The Florida Forestry Association is one of the first state organizations to submit a $500 check toward this effort. We are encouraging other agriculture and forestry groups in Florida and throughout the nation to consider financial support as well.
